Room 10

Hello! My name is Mrs. Jorjezian and I am a first grade teacher at Haskell STEAM Magnet Elementary! My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that young learners thrive in environments that balance strong foundational skills with meaningful, engaging experiences. In first grade, building confidence in reading, writing, and mathematics is essential. These core skills form the basis for all future learning, and I am committed to providing structured, supportive instruction that helps every child develop fluency, comprehension, and problem-solving abilities.

At the same time, I believe that learning should be dynamic, relevant, and connected to the real world. By incorporating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics) into the classroom, I encourage students to explore, engage, create, and think critically. Through hands-on, project-based learning experiences, students are able to apply foundational skills in meaningful contexts, deepening their understanding while fostering curiosity and creativity.
I also emphasize 21st-century learning skills such as collaboration, communication, and adaptability. In a first-grade classroom, this begins with developing strong social skills—learning how to work with others, express ideas respectfully, solve conflicts, and build empathy. These interpersonal skills are just as important as academic growth and help create a positive, inclusive classroom community where all students feel valued and supported.

Ultimately, my goal is to nurture well-rounded learners who are not only academically prepared but also confident, curious, and capable of thinking critically about the world around them.
